🎯 Learning objectiveLearning objective

Know what you need to trade F&O, how margin and premium work, and which order types to use carefully.F&O trade karne ke liye kya chahiye, margin aur premium kaise kaam karte hain, aur kaunse order types dhyan se use karein.

📖 LessonLesson

Accounts: you need a trading account and a demat account with a SEBI-registered broker, completed KYC, and F&O activation (brokers usually ask for income proof and a risk acknowledgement).

Premium vs margin:

  • An option buyer pays the full premium upfront: premium × lot size. Example: ₹100 × 65 = ₹6,500 per lot.
  • An option seller or futures trader must keep margin (SPAN + exposure margin set by the clearing corporation). Margin can rise when volatility rises or near expiry.

Common order types:

  • Limit — buy/sell only at your price or better. Preferred for options.
  • Market — executes at the best available price; in illiquid strikes this can mean a bad fill (slippage).
  • Stop-loss (SL) — becomes an order when a trigger price is hit. Brokers and exchanges may restrict some order types in options because of liquidity.

Accounts: SEBI-registered broker ke saath trading account aur demat account, poora KYC, aur F&O activation chahiye (brokers aam taur par income proof aur risk acknowledgement maangte hain).

Premium vs margin:

  • Option buyer poora premium upfront deta hai: premium × lot size. Example: ₹100 × 65 = ₹6,500 per lot.
  • Option seller ya futures trader ko margin rakhna hota hai (clearing corporation ka SPAN + exposure margin). Volatility badhne par ya expiry ke paas margin badh sakta hai.

Common order types:

  • Limit — sirf aapki price ya usse behtar par buy/sell. Options ke liye behtar.
  • Market — best available price par execute; illiquid strikes me bura fill (slippage) mil sakta hai.
  • Stop-loss (SL) — trigger price aane par order ban jaata hai. Liquidity ki wajah se brokers/exchanges options me kuch order types restrict kar sakte hain.
🧪 Hypothetical exampleHypothetical example

Hypothetical: An illiquid strike shows a bid of ₹4 and an ask of ₹6. A market buy order fills at ₹6 — you are instantly down ₹2 × 65 = ₹130 per lot before the market even moves.Hypothetical: Ek strike par bid ₹4 aur ask ₹6 hai. Market buy order ₹6 par fill hota hai — market hile bina hi aap ₹2 × 65 = ₹130 per lot neeche ho.
