Buyers and SellersBuyers aur Sellers
Understand that every derivatives trade has two sides — and why that matters for your expectations.Samjho ki har derivatives trade ke do side hote hain — aur ye aapki expectations ke liye kyun zaroori hai.
📖 LessonLesson
For every buyer there is a seller. If you buy a NIFTY call, someone else has sold (written) it. Before costs, derivatives are close to a zero-sum game: one side's gain is the other side's loss. After brokerage, taxes and slippage, the total is negative for traders as a group.
- Option buyer — pays the premium, has limited risk, needs a favourable move soon enough.
- Option seller (writer) — receives the premium, deposits margin, has limited reward and potentially large risk.
The other side of your trade may be a professional, an algorithm or an institution with better tools. That is another reason why preparation and risk limits matter.
Open interest (OI) counts how many contracts are open (not yet closed). You will study OI in detail in the Option Chain module.
Har buyer ke saamne ek seller hota hai. Aap NIFTY call kharidte ho to kisi ne use sell (write) kiya hai. Costs se pehle derivatives lagbhag zero-sum game hain: ek side ka gain doosre side ka loss. Brokerage, tax aur slippage ke baad traders ke liye total negative hota hai.
- Option buyer — premium deta hai, risk limited, favourable move jaldi chahiye.
- Option seller (writer) — premium leta hai, margin rakhta hai, reward limited aur risk bada ho sakta hai.
Aapke trade ki doosri side professional, algorithm ya better tools wala institution ho sakta hai. Isliye taiyaari aur risk limits zaroori hain.
Open interest (OI) batata hai kitne contracts open hain (abhi close nahi hue). OI ko Option Chain module me detail me padhenge.

- Ignoring that costs make the total negative.Ignore karna ki costs total ko negative bana dete hain.
- Assuming the other side is uninformed.Ye maan lena ki doosri side ko kuch nahi pata.
