What Is a Derivative?Derivative Kya Hai?
Understand what “derived value” means and the three main uses of derivatives.“Derived value” ka matlab aur derivatives ke 3 main use samjho.
📖 LessonLesson
A derivative is a contract whose value is derived from something else — the underlying. For NIFTY options, the underlying is the NIFTY 50 index.
Derivatives are used for three main purposes:
- Hedging — reducing risk on an existing position (e.g. buying a put to protect a portfolio).
- Speculation — taking a view on price movement with leverage.
- Arbitrage — profiting from small price differences between related markets (mostly done by institutions).
Exchange-traded derivatives (like NIFTY F&O) have standard contracts and a clearing corporation guaranteeing settlement. Over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives are private agreements between parties.
Derivative ek contract hai jiski value kisi aur cheez — underlying — se derive hoti hai. NIFTY options ka underlying NIFTY 50 index hai.
Derivatives ke 3 main use hain:
- Hedging — kisi existing position ka risk kam karna (jaise portfolio protect karne ke liye put kharidna).
- Speculation — leverage ke saath price movement par view lena.
- Arbitrage — related markets ke chhote price farq se profit (zyadatar institutions karte hain).
Exchange-traded derivatives (jaise NIFTY F&O) ke standard contracts hote hain aur clearing corporation settlement ki guarantee deta hai. Over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives parties ke beech private agreements hote hain.
⚠️ Common mistakesCommon galtiyan
