Investing vs TradingInvesting vs Trading
Know the difference between investing and trading, and why options belong to trading.Investing aur trading ka farq samjho, aur options trading me kyun aate hain.
📖 LessonLesson
Both investing and trading involve buying financial assets, but the goal, time frame and risk are very different.
| Investing | Trading | |
|---|---|---|
| Time frame | Years | Minutes to weeks |
| Goal | Grow wealth with the business / economy | Profit from price movement |
| Typical tools | Shares, mutual funds, ETFs, bonds | Intraday equity, futures, options |
| Activity | Low — review periodically | High — needs constant attention |
| Costs | Low (few transactions) | High (brokerage, STT, slippage on every trade) |
Options have an expiry date and their value changes quickly, so they are trading instruments. They can also be used for hedging an investment portfolio, but that still requires active management.
Many successful people only invest and never trade. Trading is optional; financial literacy is not.
Investing aur trading dono me financial assets kharide jaate hain, par goal, time frame aur risk bilkul alag hote hain.
| Investing | Trading | |
|---|---|---|
| Time frame | Saalon tak | Minutes se hafton tak |
| Goal | Business / economy ke saath wealth badhana | Price movement se profit |
| Tools | Shares, mutual funds, ETFs, bonds | Intraday equity, futures, options |
| Activity | Kam — kabhi-kabhi review | Zyada — lagataar dhyan chahiye |
| Costs | Kam (kam transactions) | Zyada (har trade par brokerage, STT, slippage) |
Options ki expiry date hoti hai aur unki value tezi se badalti hai, isliye ye trading instruments hain. Inse portfolio ki hedging bhi ho sakti hai, par usme bhi active management chahiye.
Bahut se safal log sirf invest karte hain, trade kabhi nahi karte. Trading optional hai; financial literacy nahi.
